Help Restore Oakland Cemetery’s Original Six Acres

Last year, we set a goal to restore Oakland Cemetery's iconic gate – and because of you, the gate now stands fully restored to its original beauty.

This GAgives Day, we’re calling on our community to step inside the historic grounds of Oakland Cemetery and help us take the next step in restoring this beloved space. Oakland's Original Six Acres is the oldest section of the Cemetery and often, the first experience for guests as they enter; however, 4 of the 6 acres have been untouched and uncared for, for nearly 175 years.

Thanks to generous donors and dedicated supporters, we’ve already restored 2 acres. Now, we've set a goal to raise $23,000 on GAgives Day to fund the renovation of the oldest section of Oakland Cemetery, including:

    • Preserving irreplaceable funerary architecture
    • Restoring the Cemetery's oldest brick pathways
    • Saving the oldest trees in the Cemetery

and supporting our mission to share Oakland Cemetery all year long — welcoming you, along with hundreds of thousands of guests, each year.

Why the Original Six Matters

The Original Six Acres houses irreplaceable funerary architecture that are most critically in danger from the ravages of time and nature, including the Cemetery's earliest grave markers and oldest brick walkways, and some of the most prominent mausolea and statues.

Additionally, the Cemetery's oldest trees that line the paths and roadways desperately need specialized care to ensure their health and longevity. Time and weather have taken their toll, but now we have the chance—and the responsibility—to restore this piece of our city’s story to its original splendor.

Share Oakland’s Future

When you give during GAgives Day, you’re not only helping restore the Original Six Acres — you’re supporting our mission to preserve, restore, enhance, and share Oakland Cemetery for generations to come.

Together, we can ensure that Oakland remains a place where stories live, history is honored, and community thrives.
