Help Restore Oakland Cemetery’s Iconic Gate to Its Original Glory
This GAgives Day, we’re calling on our community to help us complete a truly special project—the full restoration of Oakland Cemetery’s historic 1896 gate, one of Atlanta’s most beloved and photographed landmarks.
Thanks to generous donors and dedicated supporters, we’ve already made incredible progress. Now, we just need to raise $15,000 on GAgives Day to fully fund the complete renovation of the gate, its ornate ironwork, and the beautification of the surrounding lots—the very spaces that welcome hundreds of thousands of guests each year.
As we approach the 50th Anniversary of Historic Oakland Foundation in 2026, your support will help return this architectural treasure to the grandeur and beauty it once held—preserving it for generations to come.
Why the Gate Matters
For more than a century, the gate has stood as Oakland Cemetery’s front door—a welcoming threshold to a place of history, memory, and reflection. It’s more than an entrance; it’s a symbol of Atlanta’s past and a beloved backdrop for visitors and photographers alike.
Time and weather have taken their toll, but now we have the chance—and the responsibility—to restore this piece of our city’s story to its original splendor.
Build Oakland’s Future
When you give on GAgives Day, you’re not only helping restore the gate—you’re supporting the mission and vision of Historic Oakland Foundation: to preserve, restore, share, and celebrate this extraordinary space for generations to come.
Let’s honor the past, celebrate the present, and build toward the future—together.
About Oakland: Oakland Cemetery is one of Atlanta's first public green spaces and the city's oldest historical and cultural landmark. Welcoming more than 105,000 visitors each year, Oakland is an outdoor classroom, an art gallery, a botanical garden, and an island of tranquility in the heart of the city. It serves as a destination for tourists from all over the country and the world, as well as a backyard for the residents of the surrounding communities.
