The Georgia Tree Council believes every Georgia community deserves the benefits trees provide. We work with individuals, communities, and organizations to provide education and resources that empower Georgians to grow and maintain a healthy community forest.

What are community forests and why do they matter?

Community forests encompass everything green in a built environment. Whether that is street trees, backyard trees with treehouses, the trees that provide shade for the most coveted parking spaces, or trees in local parks, they are all part of the community, or urban, forest.

Trees in the places we live are essential to our well-being. Trees are green infrastructure, actively managing stormwater. Street trees clean the air, removing pollutants from car exhaust. People that live in communities with a healthy tree canopy are healthier, both physically and mentally. Neighborhoods with community trees are safer, even when accounting for other factors. Trees improve our quality of life.
