Georgia News Lab

The Georgia News Lab is an award winning investigative reporting collaborative. It is a partnership between the state’s top college journalism programs along with Georgia Public Broadcasting and other leading news outlets. The Lab’s mission is to train a diverse new generation of investigative journalists and prepare them for professional careers.  

In nurturing the next generation of diverse Watchdog reporters, the News Lab helps news outlets better serve the public and bring marginalized voices into the public debate.

The News Lab is widely recognized for its work.  It was named the Grand Prize winner of the Online News Association’s Challenge Fund for Innovation in Journalism Education in 2015. The Society of Society of Professional Journalists has twice named the News Lab the collegiate winner of the Larry Peterson Memorial Award for Investigative Journalism. The Association of Opinion Journalists named the News Lab the winner of the Barry Bingham Sr. Award for 2016, in recognition of “outstanding efforts to encourage minority students in the field of journalism.” The Atlanta Press Club named the News Lab the inaugural winner of its News Innovation Award. The Press Club also awarded the News Lab its highest honor, the Impact Award.
