In Georgia, we see the forest for the trees. Because we know they’re more than just leaves and limbs. They’re an essential part of the economic, environmental and educational ecosystem of our state. The Georgia Forestry Foundation supports the management of 92% of the forest land which covers two-thirds of our state’s land mass. Our Environmental Impact

Managed forests in Georgia annually plant more than 200,000,000 trees for a net increase of 48% more trees than are harvested each year. This massive reforestation effort means that more than 21 trees are planted annually for each resident of our state and provides protection of Georgia's water, air, and land in the form of:

• The absorption and storage of 18.2 million tons of carbon, the equivalent of taking 14.1 million cars off the road for a year.
• More than 17 billion cubic meters of avoided water runoff, the equivalent of filling the water bottle of every person on Earth every day for 11 years.
• The removal of 1.3 million tons of chemical air pollution, enough gaseous pollution to fill more than 150,000 Goodyear blimps.

Our Impact on Education

The Georgia Forestry Foundation partners with Georgia’s leading conservation and environmental education nonprofits to bring state of the art educational opportunities to our children. These programs include:

• The creation of a virtual forests program in partnership with Georgia Public Broadcasting that brings the wonder of the forest into the classroom. Since launching in October 2018, the Georgia Forests Virtual Learning Journey has been viewed more than 14,000 times and GPB Education Outreach Specialists have trained 1,989 educators across Georgia on the resource.
• A partnership with the Chattahoochee Nature Center that currently serves 22 locations and reaches 3,000 students. This outreach is broad based to reach a wide range of students who lack awareness of, and access to, forests in general and managed forests in particular.
• Long standing support of Trees Atlanta that offers both depth and breadth of learning by engaging students in the city of Atlanta and Atlanta Public Schools. The Youth Tree Team of 36 Atlanta high school students exposes them to “green collar” jobs and building skills related to urban forestry and strengthens their professional development. The Urban Tree Trackers In-School Program reaches 1,501 total students in 18 schools and the Junior Tree Keepers spring break and summer camps programs engage another 355 students.
