HELP US MEET OUR GOAL

The mission of Generations Together, Inc. (GT), based in Fayetteville, Georgia, is to provide FREE goods and services to support grand/kinship families - grandparents, aunts, uncles, other relatives, and family friends – who care for children when parents are unable or unwilling to parent.  They are an important part of the child welfare response. The 2.8 million children in kinship families dwarf the 400,000 in foster care. Yet, recognition of kinship families has only recently gained support from many state and federal policymakers.

Research shows children have better outcomes in life when they grow up within their family.

 We offer the following services:

•    Outreach, Information/Referral to identify, recruit, and enroll kinship families in support services and referral to community ancillary services.

•    Needs Assessment and Case Management to conduct a family intake to clarify needs, establish goals, refer families for physical and behavioral health supports, and coordinate services.

•    Caregiver Education to inform caregivers on parenting strategies and topics of interest, including the effects of trauma, grief and loss, and legal issues.

•    Peer-to-Peer Support through monthly support groups and caregiver mentors to new participants.  

•    Urgent Needs and Concrete Goods to provide, identify and refer families to resources for cash, food, entitlements, and in-kind assistance available to families.  

•    Partnerships with Kinship Families and Organizations to include relationships with formal government agencies and community-based partners.

•    Notable programs/activities include Annual Caregiver Appreciation Breakfast, cultural and recreational activities, Annual Back to School Event, student educational scholarships, Angel Trees for the holidays, free food distribution, and free children/youth summer camps.
