Please take 90 seconds to learn about our innovative Food Security Groups.
FSA has operated Food Security Groups since 2010 in low-income apartments, so that people don't have far to travel and so that they can meet their neighbors. Food Security Groups function in a unique way, and they are far more than just a place to pick up food handouts. Belonging to a Food Security Group allows our members to actively contribute to their community and experience empowerment, education, and support. Members take attendance, collect dues, unload and distribute food, share resources, listen to guest speakers, and connect with neighbors. By running their own community meetings, Food Security Group members become invested in the program and boost their dignity and pride.
Our members receive from 1/3 to 1/2 of their families' total food needs, so they become truly, joyously, food secure. Approximately 2/3 of the FSA food budget purchases fresh fruits and vegetables wholesale.
