Five Horsemen Nonprofit, Inc. is a federally tax-exempt organization governed under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC), with Public Charity Status under 509(a)(2), which grants contribution deductibility.
In the fall of 2023, Dexter Porter began building the Five Horsemen Nonprofit brand, focusing on excellence and philanthropy. He gathered four high school classmates to explore collective ways to support the academic and athletic growth of students and student-athletes in Atlanta Public Schools. The five classmates from the historic Frederick Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia, class of 1984—Christopher Morris, Dexter Porter, Dwight Thomas, Geary Woolfolk, and Van Tyman—laid the foundational work needed to establish a strong business foundation. Frederick Douglass High School is well respected for its commitment to academic excellence and character development.
The Frederick Douglass class of 1984 is one of the most prestigious graduating classes in the school’s history. The gentleman excelled academically, socially, and athletically, notably helping lead the school to its first athletic state championship—the State of Georgia Boys 4(AAAA) Basketball Championship—during the winter of 1984. They were also instrumental in the school’s achievement of its first National School of Excellence honor and a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award in the fall of 1983.
After high school, each gentleman embarked on diverse paths that highlighted their versatility, continuing commitment to excel academically, socially, and athletically at some of the nation’s most prestigious historic military academies, universities, and HBCUs. Their journeys led them to become authors, aviators, entrepreneurs, commissioned military officers, engineers, executives, and professional athletes, demonstrating their adaptability and determination to excel throughout their careers.
United by their commitment to philanthropy, these gentlemen view it as a powerful tool for social change and advocacy. They believe that when used strategically, philanthropy can create valuable opportunities for citizens and make a positive contribution to our communities. This mission-driven approach defines their passions, goals, and values, guiding their efforts to assist and uplift communities throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area.
