Fertile Ground Neyw Incorporated

Growing up in inner city Baltimore, I was inspired by my high school basketball coach, Breezy Bishop to create a mentoring program for young women.  Coach Bishop encouraged me to excel academically as well as athletically and she inspired me to DREAM. Playing on a nationally ranked basketball team exposed me to a variety of life experiences and cultures outside of my inner city neighborhood.  Those experiences broadened my view of the world and helped me realize that exposure was a missing component for other inner city girls like myself.  And like Coach Bishop, I desired to be a guide by exposing them to the world outside of their neighborhoods.  I wanted to create a space where young women could be nurtured and inspired to Dream BIG! Through my work with Fertile Ground, I am committed to honoring the torch that was passed to me by my mother, Coach Bishop, and the many other individuals who have played critical roles in my development.  My goal is to help other young girls face and survive the rite of passage into womanhood by planting seeds of knowledge, nurturing their self-esteem, and cultivating them to become extraordinary individuals!
