In 2023, we changed our adoption protocols and suspended our regularly scheduled meet-and-greets. We worked with people whose applications were approved by our Adoption Committee by scheduling an adoption appointment for them – and that worked out well for everyone. We were still able to continue to rescue cats and kittens from local animal control facilities and owner surrenders.

Because our meet-and-greet and special events were not only a way to showcase our kitties but also resulted in significant donations, we are now in need of funds to help us care for our current and incoming rescue kitties. We need your financial support so that we can continue to rescue cats and kittens and provide them with the five-star care they deserve. Here are just a few of our rescue stories from the past year:

FFRS was contacted by a repatriate who asked if we would be interested in partnering with a rescue in Doha, Qatar and we agreed to accept three of their kittens. That rescue works closely with repatriates who are involved with their rescue. When one of the repatriates heads back home to the United States, they chaperone the cats on their long flight so the cats can find their ‘purr’manent homes here in the USA.

We also took in cats and kittens from local animal control facilities and owner surrenders during that period. Many have already been adopted and there are many others that are still awaiting their “fur-ever” homes, most of whom are now considered “tweenagers.”

Special Needs Kitties are always a challenge, and we have several who are still looking for their ‘purr-fect’ home:

Kioshi, a ~2.5 year old short hair black ticked tabby, was rescued from a local animal control facility after he got sick and had to have his eyes removed. He went to a foster home where he recovered from his surgery and has thrived. He is a very sweet cat who has learned to navigate his foster home very well. He does have special needs, like living in a single-story home or, if there are stairs, they are not open staircases or balconies because he can (and does) jump onto things but cannot see what he is jumping onto. He gets along with other cats but does not like bossy cats.

Dash, a cream and white domestic medium hair, came to FFRS as a baby in 2021 from a local animal control facility. He is very sweet, curious, playful, and loves to “snoopervise” whatever is happening around him. He gets along with other cats and promises to be a lap fungus in his new home.

Blu Barry, 2.5 year old a male blue-eyed white domestic medium hair. He has feline congenital sensorineural deafness, a condition where he was born deaf due to degeneration of the inner ear, commonly seen in white cats with blue eyes. This type of deafness is often hereditary and can affect one or both ears. He is a sweet and handsome boy and his deafness doesn't slow him down!

All of our cats go to their new homes fully vetted, which includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccines, FIV/FeLV tested, dewormed, microchipped, and treated with flea preventative. Our Adoption Counselors take time to review each application forthe best fit for the cat and the new family. Rescue is not easy, but it is rewarding to our volunteers – and we are an all-volunteer group.

Are you interested in volunteering and/or fostering with Fancy Feline Rescue of the South? There are always opportunities and we are always in need of caregivers, adoption counselors, fosters, and advocates for our Fancy Felines in general.
