Faith Works in Action Inc.

Faith Works in Action, INC. (FWIA) is located in the historic African American community of Shermantown, in the city of Stone Mountain, GA, USA. The community has thrived through years of social challenges. Today, this community continues to face significant challenges, social concerns, and opportunities. FWIA strives to improve the quality of life for its underserved, marginalized and impoverished residents (some live in substandard housing), and surrounding communities faced with 21st century socio-economic conditions.  

Mission

Faith Works in Action seeks, to improve the quality of life for residents in Shermantown, and surrounding communities by: initiating, developing, and facilitating positive and preventive physical and mental health services, and social and economic advancement opportunities through education and action. 

FWIA  Forever Young Seniors Initiative

FWIA offers life skill development, health education, cognitive socialization, recreational activities and a nutritional lunch to over 45 seniors on the second and forth Thursday of each month. Lunches are also distributed to more than 16 home-bound residents. Leftovers are taken home by attendees to supplement their daily meals.  

For many seniors, this is the only social activity and travel opportunity they have apart from their home. Senior trips and excursions are highlighted experiences, and for some an opportunity to do things they were never able to experience due to Jim Crow laws, family obligations and financial hardships.
