The Fairview-E.S. Brown Restoration Project

The Fairview-E.S. Brown Heritage Corporation (FESBHC) seeks to preserve the life-affirming educational and cultural experiences of the early 1900s; namely, the Fairview Colored School located in Cave Spring, GA. The campus was erected under the Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington Philanthropic Building Campaign to provide an education for African-Americans.

Project Goals History, Education, Art, and Culture

The Fairview Re-envisioned Campus embodies the new role the School will play in the 21st century by broadening awareness of 20th century educational values. A restored First Grade Building will anchor the re-envisioned campus and serve as the primary interpretive center for the site. Preservation plans will also focus on the rehabilitation of the original Julius Rosenwald building site; while the original building will be reinterpreted as a community garden utilizing the original building’s footprint and layout. Popular garden themes are under consideration, tapping into the growing farm-to-table and local food movements. Camp offerings under consideration target Common Core Georgia Performance Standards for education, including STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math). Through these efforts, the Fairview campus will continue its tradition of educational excellence set forth by the school’s motto: “Good, Better, Best. I will not rest, until my good is better and my better is best.”
