Emma Cares, Inc. is a Non Profit 501(c)(3) independent senior housing community that strives to provide quality shared, living for aging adults ages 60 and above. We are a unique home-sharing program where seniors can relax in a safe, peaceful, warm, loving, sound, beautiful home-like environment, so that they may “Age Comfortably”. We were established to gather women to explore and develop creative options for living together in communities. Emma Cares provides housing, amenities and activities to women interested in reducing costs by sharing housing with one another. We provide a variety of services for our residents, but with some financial support, we would be able to offer our residents much more, such as outings to encourage social interaction and exercise, physical therapy, and help with the necessities that they need, but cannot afford.

Transportation is crucial to ensure that our residents and clients have access to essential services such as medical care and grocery shopping. The availability of adequate transportation enables older persons to live independently in their communities and helps to prevent isolation. Many older people, who do not drive, must rely on family and friends to provide much of their transportation. But for others, it is necessary to find community resources to provide transportation, as this vital support service may be their only connection to the outside world. We would like to utilize part of the funds to purchase a small mini-van in order to transport our Decatur residents to doctor’s appointments, outings to local events such as the library, church and museums for example. 

Funds from your support would also be utilized to operate our current programs that are dedicated to assisting the disabled, elderly/aging adults and improving their current living situations, while expanding our services to more individuals. Our current programs consists of housing, transportation, senior and disabled assistance. We would like to provide free or reduced assistance to seniors or the disabled who can not afford or doesn't qualify for in-home care. We also would like to purchase an additional house to expand our housing program to men or veterans. We are dedicated to making their lives more comfortable by assisting them with saving on their living expenses as well as providing them with much needed services such as social, recreational activities, as well as educational activities, health and fitness.

A Harvard School of Public Health study published in The American Journal of Public Health, suggests that “strong social ties, through friends, family, and community groups, can preserve our brain health as we age and that social isolation may be an important risk factor for cognitive decline in the elderly.” (Tara Parker-Pope, Socializing Appears to Delay Memory Problems, The New York Times, Well, June 4, 2008). At Emma Cares we would like to provide an atmosphere where our residents and clients are being well taken care of physically, mentally and socially. We would greatly appreciate your assistance in helping us with our program development in order to give our seniors and disabled individuals more of what they need in their lives but cannot afford.  Thank you for your time and consideration.
