Corners Outreach Inc

A nonprofit organization

Corners Outreach began by tutoring Title 1 local elementary schools with students who were struggling with academic performance in 2012. By starting with elementary aged students, our goal is to get them on reading level by third grade, which is a major indicator of high school graduation.  We have partnered with nine schools in Gwinnett and Dekalb County, and have set up clubs close to the neighborhoods where the most help is needed. Now Corners Academy offers five programs:

  1. After school tutoring
  2. Summer Camp
  3. Mommy and Me Program
  4. Tenn Program
  5. Parent Workshops

As Corners began to know the whole family, we learned about their poverty. We know that education is the greatest way to impact poverty but that is a long-term approach, and many of our families are in a cycle of multiyear poverty which results in school dropout. So we surveyed our parents using Assets Based Community Development (ABCD) to learn that the number 1 occupation was lawn care. In 2018, we began hiring parents into Corners lawn Care.

  • Increase wages for workers by 20% and give them full employment, not seasonal or partial work
  • Increase our time of influence with our parents by sharing life
  • Donate 15% of all revenue to tutoring students

You help to create a thriving community in 3 ways:

1. Volunteer - we have opportunities to work with all ages, from toddlers through adults. And we welcome parents to bring their children when they volunteer.

2. Client – You’re already doing this!  Please remember that we can help you with those special projects, like sod, pine straw, and seasonal flowers.

3. Investor - You can give two ways: A single donation or become a Corners Champion by donating monthly.
