Why We Exist

There is a significant rise in the rate of childhood and teenage obesity, an increase of 400% in the last 40 years. Overweight children and teens have poorer academic performance and are absent from school an average of 20% more days than healthy weight children. Obese children are five times more likely than normal weight children to report a low quality of life and are more likely to engage in suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Obesity is beginning to be addressed with proper nutrition and exercise but good behavioral health must be taught to see long term changes.

What We’re Doing About It

COPE offers obesity education and prevention programs to Savannah families free of charge. We solicit financial contributions to pay for the cost of implementation and materials so all parents and children can participate and/or benefit. COPE is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization. We welcome individual and corporate donations.
