Repairing Homes. Restoring Hope. Honoring Dr. King’s Legacy.

Every year, members of our Decatur community come together to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through service—not simply by remembering his words, but by putting them into action.

The MLK Service Project brings volunteers together to provide critical home repairs, maintenance, and yard work for low- and fixed-income seniors and veterans in the Decatur community. What may seem like a small repair to one person can make an enormous difference in another person’s quality of life, safety, and sense of dignity.

For homeowners who are aging, living on a fixed income, or unable to afford necessary repairs, a leaky faucet, broken step, damaged railing, overgrown yard, or other household need can quickly become a significant challenge. Our goal is to help ensure that these neighbors can remain safely and comfortably in their homes.

More Than a Day of Service

The MLK Service Project is about more than fixing houses. It is about strengthening our community.

Volunteers donate their time, skills, and energy to help neighbors who have spent their lives contributing to our community. Local organizations and community partners work together to identify needs, coordinate volunteers, gather supplies, and complete projects.

Through this collective effort, we transform houses into safer homes and turn service into meaningful connections between neighbors.
