Capital B is a first-of-its-kind, Black-women-led local and national nonprofit news organization for Black Americans that launched January 31, 2022.
Capital B's mission is to offer journalism that will reach Black people who have been ignored, underrepresented, or represented poorly in mainstream news, while exposing the systems that perpetuate racial inequality and injustice in America.
Our national newsroom reaches Black audiences across the country with investigative, enterprise, and accountability reporting covering the biggest issues of concern for Black Americans: criminal justice, education, the environment, housing and jobs, health and safety. Our national newsroom is the hub for a planned network of local newsrooms. We opened our first local newsroom in Atlanta in January 2022.
Capital B Atlanta journalists deliver need-to-know information to help Black communities lead more informed lives – as they seek affordable housing, get health screenings, and vote – and contextualize local, state and federal policy and elections.
Every challenge facing the nation right now — in education, health, criminal justice, income inequality, housing and more — requires strong, accessible information sources that equip those most affected with knowledge they can use to be more informed and more engaged in finding solutions.
Good, quality, trustworthy information is the cornerstone of making progress and affecting change.
We're building a pathway for sustainable Black news.
