$2,500 Goal

Did you know that 180,000 children in Metro Atlanta are food insecure?

That means they don’t always have enough food to eat. Our Weekend Feeding Program is dedicated to changing that. Each week, we provide nutritious food bags to students on Fridays, helping keep them nourished over the weekends when school meals aren’t available.

Our goal is simple: to reduce the symptoms of chronic hunger and ensure that every child has the fuel they need to grow, learn, and thrive.

To date, Backpack Buddies of Metro Atlanta has provided 800,724 weekend meals to 133,454 children in need across Atlanta. We partner with Title 1 schools where most students depend on free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch as their only guaranteed meals of the day. Through these partnerships and partnerships with area food banks, Backpack Buddies packs nutritious meals and snacks to carry these students through the weekend. Following USDA recommendations, a Backpack Buddies package for one weekend includes 2 servings of breakfast, 2 servings of fruit, 5 servings of proteins/mains, 5 servings of snacks/drinks, and 2 servings of vegetables.

With the impactful support of generous donors like you, Backpack Buddies of Metro Atlanta will address childhood hunger for Atlanta students and ensure that children arrive at school well-nourished, ready to learn, and prepared to thrive in their education and future careers.
