Bach Ascending

A nonprofit organization

A new and unique concert series for Savannah

All our events are presented free of charge as a gift to the community.

Why Bach?

Johann Sebastian Bach is widely considered one of the greatest composers in history. He wrote nearly all his music for the Lutheran church, and is beloved by musicians of every stripe. His influence has been felt by classical composers and even reaches jazz and pop artists.

Bach and more!

We celebrate the music of Bach, the master, but also present music by other composers from different styles as a counterpoint, thereby creating eclectic experiences for the audience.

The venue

The host venue is the historic Lutheran Church of the Ascension, founded during Bach's lifetime in 1741. The current building dates to 1844 and possesses characteristics of European architecture that will bring authenticity to Bach’s music, but is flexible enough to showcase music by other artists in a rich variety of styles and settings. The building is a popular venue for prominent events such as the Savannah Book Festival and the Savannah Philharmonic Chamber Music Series.

First season coming 2020-2021

After our successful opening event on February 9, 2020, the two remaining concerts have been postponed and will likely be rolled into the 2020-2021 opening season. "From Bach to Warsaw" and "Beatles and Bach" will join other concerts that will be announced at a later time.
