Ahimsa House is the first and only nonprofit organization solely dedicated to helping both the human and animal victims of domestic violence in Georgia reach safety together. We exist to address the link between animal cruelty and domestic violence. In homes affected by violence, pets are also at risk, and very few domestic violence shelters in Georgia accept animals. We bridge this gap by helping these victims get their beloved pets to safety. Read more about our story and what we do here.
Typically, all funds raised during GAgives on GivingTuesday go directly to providing services such as veterinary care and emergency safehousing for pets escaping violence while they await reunification with their families. While most of our goal is devoted to this same purpose, we're aiming higher than usual this year to fill an additional need: bridge the gap left by a recent, severe cut to our federal funding, which has put jobs and services at risk.
Watch the video below to learn more about these cuts from Myra Rasnick, Executive Director, and please visit us on social media throughout the campaign to keep up with our progress and hear more stories about the human and animal survivors you're supporting.
$35 can provide one night of comprehensive care for one animal survivor of domestic violence
$70 can provide transportation to safety for one client and their pet(s)
$150 can provide one night at a pet-friendly hotel for a family that escapes late at night
$200 can provide a routine vet visit for an exam and vaccinations
$340 can fund approximately one week of individual support services provided by our Direct Services staff
(Advocates track every client interaction according to a list of victim services -- such as "individual support" -- provided and defined by our funders.)
$485 can provide a pet deposit for a survivor that has secured, new safe housing for their family
$820 can fund approximately one day of victim services provided by all Ahimsa House staff
$1,200 can provide comprehensive care for the duration of one pet's stay in our program
