Adopt a Golden Atlanta has taken in over 5,000 orphans since our founding. Each one arrives with a story, a need, and a hope for a second chance. And with the average orphan requiring over $2,200 in care, that hope comes at a cost we willingly shoulder — because their lives matter.

Adopt a Golden Atlanta (AGA) is a volunteer-run, nonprofit organization dedicated to giving Golden Retrievers — purebred and golden-hearted mixes — safe, loving, forever homes. For every dog that comes through our doors, our mission is to be the bridge between heartbreak and healing.

This year, the animal welfare world has been pushed to its limits. The shelter crisis in our country has become unlike anything we’ve seen before. Shelters are overflowing. Stray numbers are surging. Families facing financial hardship are being forced into devastating decisions. And dogs — wonderful, innocent dogs — are paying the price with their lives. 

Homelessness among dogs is at an all-time high, and rescues everywhere are drowning in desperate pleas for help. AGA has felt this crisis firsthand. We’ve had an unprecedented number of owner turn-ins, abandoned dogs, and emergency cases. More dogs are arriving sick, injured, neglected, or simply with nowhere left to go. Many need costly, life-saving medical intervention the moment they reach us, causing our medical expenses to grow and grow.

But here is the truth: When a golden needs us, we say yes. No matter the cost. No matter the challenge. No matter how overwhelmed the world feels. And that is why Giving Tuesday means everything to us. As a nonprofit, AGA relies solely on the compassion of people like you — people who believe that every golden deserves love, safety, and a lifetime of care. Giving Tuesday is a moment where kindness becomes action, and action becomes life-saving support.
