Tapestri Inc. is dedicated to ending violence and oppression in refugee and immigrant communities, using culturally competent and appropriate methods. As advocates for immigrant and refugee families affected by domestic violence, sexual assault and exploitation, Tapestri is committed to using education, community organizing, direct services and advocacy to improve the lives of those it serves.

Did you know...

*  Tapestri is the only U.S. Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) funded organization in the state of Georgia to work with foreign-born survivors and their qualifying family members?

*  Tapestri, in conjuction with the Department of Health and Human Services, is one of only three agencies in the United States providing regional agency management? We monitor case management service agencies throughout the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee?

*  The Federal Bureau of Investigations has named Atlanta a leading hub for human trafficking?

Tapestri provides direct services to immigrant and refugee survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence and sexual assault. The clients we serve have come to the United States from all over the world. To meet the needs of our culturally and religiously diverse clients, Tapestri maintains a large network of interpreters who help provide culturally and linguistically appropriate social services to meet the needs of these foreign-born survivors of violence. Our interpreters speak a variety of languages and are trained in how to effectively translate in a traficking and/or domestic violence situation without imposing certain cultural norms. Our quarterly trainings have increased the number of interpreters and languages available and allowed us to more efficiently and effectively assist our clients in emergency situations.

Our anti-human trafficking program serves 30-40 individuals locally each year. To meet the needs of these individuals, Tapestri provides comprehensive case management services, including assistance with long and short term housing, food, clothing, medical assistance, counseling, ESL classes, transportation to appointments and referrals for immigration relief. Our direct service coordinators assist with any needs that may arise following the client’s escape or rescue.

Tapestri’s Legal Advocacy Program, which serves 300-400 individuals annually, provides assistance to domestic violence survivors, including support with temporary protective orders, divorce, immigration relief and custody-related issues, as well as emergency food, clothing and housing assistance on a case-by-case basis. To help break the cycle of violence and change behaviors, we conduct a state-certified, 24-week Family Violence Intervention Program targeted at immigrant and refugee men.
Since 2002, Tapestri has been an independent organization, creating its own programs and working collaboratively with mainstream and ethnic organizations/communities to address multiple forms of gender-based violence and oppression in immigrant and refugee communities. Created by a group of immigrant and refugee advocates, it continues to be governed by ethnically diverse immigrant and refugee women.
