The mission of Open Door Community House is to empower impoverished
people to meet their full potential as children of God. Since 1935, Open Door has expanded to meet the increasing needs of the community, which has responded by opening its heart to those in need. Focusing on long term solutions to poverty
, Open Door serves through four community ministries; three homeless ministries; and Circles in Columbus.

Have you ever felt like you were working hard but getting nowhere?
Karen did. She worked hard at a fast food restaurant but in the end, she didn’t bring home enough money to support her girls. Homeless and a victim of domestic violence, Karen was referred to Open Door by Valley Interfaith Promise. VIP sheltered her family together in a church, and it was there Karen learned about the services available at Open Door.
Karen was tired of struggling so hard and still not quite making ends meet. She was ready for lasting change. She completed Circle Leader Training and found assistance with food through our Friends and Neighbors Network food co-op, FANN. Having fresh produce and enough food to feed her girls was a blessing to Karen -- because you were there supporting our ministries.
Karen wasn’t finished. With your help, she joined the Open Door Institute’s Culinary Arts program and finished second in her class! Passing the ServSafe test opened doors for Karen as this certification commands a higher wage in the food service industry. Your support made this possible for her!
Before long, Karen landed a full-time job with benefits. But she didn’t stop there. Karen will be matched with allies through Circles in Columbus. These community volunteers form intentional friendships and support her efforts to move out of poverty for good. I know you cheer her on and share her joy as we do here at Open Door! Thanks to you, Karen has already come so far.
Won’t you please give hope and help to another mother like Karen working hard to achieve self-sufficiency? Please make your gift today and support a family working hard to leave poverty behind forever!
