In stately Washington, the lush foliage, unique shops and eateries, and historical monuments on the Square invite visitors to explore and enjoy. The 1897 historic North Alexander School is an easy three block stroll away along tree-lined streets.
The North Alexander School Association (NASA) is driving the transformation of this expectant building into a catalyst for cultural and economic growth in Wilkes County and the surrounding region between Athens and Augusta.
In 1990 citizens began shaping a new vision for the region by investing in the future of the School as a center for arts and education.
The School’s face has a fresh look with restored windows and a new roof. To welcome the next generation, it is time to restore the four original, heart-pine front entry doors. New exterior doors at the remaining openings will join the old and the new, providing safety and accessibility while preserving the School’s Romanesque style.
The NASA Door Project is a solid step toward a flourishing community center. Financial support at this stage means we are moving closer to the time NASA will have a direct impact on the economic health of our town and the enrichment of our neighbors. We are proud of our visible progress that is attracting partners for programs now to help get the Center up and running.
The North Alexander School venture is picking up speed. We invite you to join us and thank you for your support.
