Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia is dedicated to promoting the compassionate treatment of animals in our community through adoption, public spay/neuter services, sheltering, and education.
The Humane Society began in 1967 with the goal of becoming a model no-kill facility that cares for lost, homeless, and abandoned animals finding them loving, adoptive homes. At that time the Humane Society was incorporated and an 8 acre tract of land was purchased on which we still reside today. Funds were raised to build a facility in which to operate and the Humane Society began operations. In 1983 the name was officially changed to Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia, Inc. In 2008 the Raise the Woof capital campaign was launched in order to raise funds to construct our current state of the art animal care facility which opened in December 2011.
The Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia is not affliated with the Humane Society of the United States or any goverment agency and is a local 100% donor funded non-profit organization. HSSCG is a no-kill adoption center housing and adopting over 13,000 animals since opening. Over the years, HSSCG has expanded its services to include fostering programs, a low cost spay & neuter clinic, and a pet food bank to serve the areas needy families and pets.
