Established in 1988, the Georgia Urban Forest Council (GUFC) provides educational programming, networking, resource opportunities, and leadership in urban forestry for communities, small and large, across the state of Georgia.

GUFC presents  a winter, spring, and summer quarterly educational program, a college canopy conference, and an annual fall conference.  We also present other workshops on timely urban forestry issues that need to be addressed.  The  website www.gufc.org offers educational resources, best management practices, speaker presentations, and tree care and tree ordinance information .

GUFC also publishes Shade Magazine, presents the Excellence in Urban Forestry Awards, and raises and distributes tree planting funds for communities through the Georgia ReLeaf program, which provides tree planting funds for communities that have lost tree canopy due to storms and for projects that involve or benefit veterans. Other noted GUFC programs are the Georgia Landmark and Historic Tree Registry, the GUFC membership program, offering benefits to members such as mailings and discounts on registration fees for educational workshops, and the American Grove website, a national community of tree enthusiasts.
