The Foundation works in partnership with college leadership to generate private funding in support of college priorities. It is dedicated to carefully managing these funds to meet current needs as well as to secure the future for GMC and its students. The Foundation is an independent organization chartered by the State of Georgia as a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit educational corporation. Gifts are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
The mission of The Georgia Military College Foundation is to secure and prudently manage private gifts in support of Georgia Military College. Established in 1955, it is the official fundraising arm of GMC, designed to foster a culture that unites philanthropic desires with college priorities.
Georgia Military College is a two-year liberal arts junior college with over 14,000 students enrolled on campuses in Milledgeville, Albany, Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, Dublin, Eastman, Fayetteville, Madison, Sandersville, Stone Mountain, Warner Robins, Valdosta and Zebulon, and an online campus. Additionally, a preparatory school for grades 4-12 is located on the Milledgeville campus.
Georgia Military College opens its doors to qualified, motivated high school graduates who wish to earn a college degree. Ninety-five percent of those enrolled are commuting students, many of whom balance attending college while maintaining employment and providing for their families. Approximately five percent are enrolled in a highly regarded junior college cadet program that culminates with a select few men and women being commissioned as officers in the U.S. Army.
Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the College is an independent, public institution operating under the direction of a publicly-elected Board of Trustees. One of only five military junior colleges in the nation, GMC has been designated as a service academy preparatory program for West Point Military Academy and for the Coast Guard Academy.
From the time of its founding in 1879, GMC has demonstrated a deep and abiding commitment not only to offering academic excellence but also to strengthening the character of its students and instilling the values that have made America great – “Duty, Honor, Country” and “Character Above All.”
Through the gates of Georgia Military College have come young men and women from all walks of life, with all kinds of dreams and aspirations. The pride of Georgia Military College, its graduates represent the institution’s true legacy. Theirs is the message that will echo through the centuries to future generations, and their success forever will remain the heart and soul of Georgia Military College.
Reflecting on GMC’s history, it’s a sense of perseverance – the willingness to bear challenges with unwavering persistence toward advancement – that has cemented the stability GMC now enjoys. We are deeply grateful to those whose contributions have taken GMC from a position of historical relevance to an institution of tomorrow’s promise.
