Georgia Humanities preserves and shares the stories that move us and make us, as Georgians and as people. The stories and cultural legacies of people and place — past, present, and future, famous and little-known — have the power to enrich lives, open hearts and minds, and strengthen communities.

We partner with schools, libraries, museums, and other cultural and educational entities to offer vital programs and resources to all Georgians. The humanities explore how people understand and express the human experience, and include literature, history, art, music, language, ethics, philosophy, and much more.

Your support of Georgia Humanities enables us to

• keep the online New Georgia Encyclopedia free and accessible to everyone
• offer National History Day in Georgia for students seeking to dive more deeply into research
• provide funding and support to organizations around the state through our grants program
• bring Smithsonian exhibitions to small towns through the Museum on Main Street traveling exhibition program
• sponsor the Prime Time Family Reading Time family literacy program
• copublish books on Georgia history and culture
• support book festivals and other programs that celebrate literature, history, and the arts
• engage with libraries, K-12 educators, and hundreds of organizations who value lifelong learning and dialogue.

Our work nurtures Georgians’ understanding of themselves and of our state’s place in history and in the world. Our work fosters thoughtful and engaged citizenship.
