The Museum remains ADMISSION-FREE thanks to the generosity of members and supporters. The Columbus Museum is GROWING, BREAKING RECORDS, and EXPLORING new frontiers in art and history. We are a museum on the move. Whether making art with our friends at Hannan Elementary School, welcoming families to the Synovus Fall Festival, or filling the Museum with visitors watching art come to life before their eyes, exciting things are happening. You can BE PART OF THE MOVEMENT!
A letter from a G.W. Carver High School teacher explaining how field trips to the Museum create opportunities for critical thinking and real world connections:
The subject of art for students with disabilities provides a memorable learning experience. The Columbus Museum introduces and enhances unknown worlds of subject matter taught outside of the normal classroom atmosphere. The students take what they have learned in the classroom and use their understanding to explore imagery displayed in the exhibits.
After each tour, students complete an art project [in the Museum’s studio] facilitating the different learning styles for students with disabilities. Visual, auditory, and kinesthetic/tactile learning are all incorporated. Therefore, regardless of disability, each student is able to learn central concepts throughout the Museum.
