Christy Sims Foundation, Inc.

The Christy Sims Foundation (CSF), a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the prevention of domestic violence, joins the GA Gives on Giving Tuesday movement, a day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and celebrate generosity.

Two successful social campaigns raising awareness and funds for the nonprofit sector are aligning forces, combining Georgia’s biggest day of giving with a growing worldwide phenomenon. Starting this year, Georgia Gives Day is officially partnering with #GivingTuesday to become their lead organizer for Georgia, re-launching the state’s 24-hour giving marathon on November 28, 2017 alongside a 50-state, 97-country effort as GA Gives on #GivingTuesday. Building on the year-over-year achievements both campaigns have amassed since they launched independently in 2012, organizers are looking forward to increasing momentum, resources and revenue for the thousands of Georgia nonprofits that take part annually.

Occurring this year on November 28, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

“It’s very important that the Christy Sims Foundation get involved because we are ready to launch our programs,” said Christy Sims, president of CSF. “We’ve been working really hard to design programs for young adults that focus on the prevention of domestic violence—an area that I think too few organizations focus upon.”

“I think the term ‘domestic violence’ has narrowed peoples’ perception about the work that needs to be done,” Sims continued. “The epidemic goes beyond violence and starts even before physical abuse occurs. That’s why I’m so excited—our unique curriculum is designed to educate young people, promote open, honest dialogue among them and give them the tools they need to build self-esteem and engage in healthy relationships. I’m so, so proud of our Yellow Tulips and Manhood 101 programs and can’t wait to get them up and running.”

The Foundation is committed raising at least $25,000 in support of its domestic violence prevention programs. Donations will cover the cost of running the programs and allow young adults to participate free of charge, including educational materials, meals and more.

About the Christy Sims Foundation

The Christy Sims Foundation was founded in response to a tragic incident of domestic violence upon its founder, Christy Tucker Sims. On April 28, 2013, Christy was assaulted with industrial grade sulfuric acid, which burned her over 20% of her body and sent her into a coma for two months. As Christy has worked to rebuild her life, she has dedicated herself to educating and inspiring others to prevent domestic violence. The mission of the foundation is to help prevent intimate partner violence by providing community-based education and awareness programs for young adults. The Foundation also works to help connect survivors of domestic violence with worthy organizations whose mission it is to provide resources to help them rebuild their lives.
