Full STEAM Ahead

Henderson Mill Elementary School weaves science, technology, engineering, arts, and math into all learning activities. Teachers carefully plan the implementation of these concepts across the curriculum to provide students with hands-on learning opportunities that will engage them both inside and outside of the classroom. For example, second graders at HMES might be found creating a mixed media map while learning about topography; Kindergarteners create a song about community helpers; First Graders act out the water cycle through use of tableau.  

We are constantly raising the bar to provide the most engaging, hands-on learning environment for our students. In addition to continued funding for the students' favorite programs, we are eager to support a major renewal and expansion of our school-wide garden to include a robust outdoor classroom with seating. 

In an effort to support our students to the greatest extent possible, your donations are directly sponsoring initiatives such as:

Project-based learning (PBL) support;

Small Fry to Go program where our students raise trout and release them into the Chattahoochee River;

Alliance Theater Partnership which brings drama, music, puppetry, playwriting, and self-expression into the classroom;

LEGO STEM Enrichment which teaches engineering and math principles through hands-on building and experimentation; 

Professional development to keep our teachers up to date on cutting-edge, STEAM and elementary education curriculum;

Grade-level field trips for all students to participate in STEAM related activities outside the classroom;

Ongoing STEAM curriculum materials for each grade level;

School-wide Garden programs, including raised-bed planters for each classroom, a greenhouse, a pollinator garden and Monarch Way-Station, and creation of an expanded outdoor classroom.

Our initial fundraising goal of $10,000 will help us kick off the funding for these marvelous programs. Join us as we drive Full STEAM Ahead to support our amazing HMES students and teachers!
