The Economic Justice Coalition began in 2003, advocating for living wages in Athens. Later, we expanded into voter registration, community empowerment, and worker rights. Under the founders Dr. Ray MacNair and Linda Lloyd, EJC organized wage campaigns, rallies, UGA worker advocacy, ESL programs, and the immigration rights march. After MacNair’s passing in 2012, EJC grew co-ops like Peachy Green and supported undocumented students through Freedom University and U-Lead. The organization continued voter registration, wage theft recovery, worker center initiatives, and major community partnerships. By 2024, EJC had registered thousands of voters, secured wage increases, and received significant grants for worker programs and home-care cooperatives.
